Department of Psychology

Psychology is an academic and applied discipline involves the scientific study of mental processes and behavior. The department was established in 2013 with (2 year degree program of MA) in psycholgy and in 2015 with (4 year degree programs of BS). This department was created in response to the need of an interdisciplinary training program at SBK in order to understand how people think and behave as an individual in enviornment and in socio-culture setting. It also cover a wide range of psychological concepts with respect to humans personality and its functioning in the society.

This department is not only for giving knowledge related to psychology but also give them practical exposure through research projects, visiting hospitals and internship opportunities. Psychology is one of the most existing and rapidly advancing discipline serving humanity in almost all area of life. This department provide students with high-quality education and rigorous in classroom and beyond. We also strive to empower students with knowledge along with the social and ethical values for its application and global issues to alleviate human sufferings.

 Mission

The mission of this department is to healthy , tranquility and thriving society. To educate, counsel and inspire our students with passion and knowledge through which they can independent and become self motivated learners , healthy citizens, leaders and the person who can bring positive change in enviornment. The Aims of this department is also encourage students to develop their awareness of complexities of human cognition in psychological situation as well as in critical moment's of traumas and disaster. It is to produce professionals who sserve the local, national and global community and bring positive change and environment.

 Vision

The department of Psychology aims to inspire, energies and motivate students to create a healthy physical and psychological life for themselves and those around them.
It aims to prepare in students professional ethics, a sense of social responsibility and a good citizenship.

 Goals and objectives

  • Students will be guided by ethics, and practice in a manner that takes into account the rights and needs of those they serve as well as society as a whole.
  • Students will be aware of their personal and professional competence and will engage in appropriate self-care and continuing education.
  • Students will utilize psychological theory and the empirical literature to guide their research and clinical practice.

  • Students will be able to successfully present and defend their research findings.
  • Students will be able to write a first-authored manuscript and will demonstrate adequate knowledge of the publication process.

  • Students will be able to administer empirically-based assessments as well as competently interpret and write integrated reports.
  • Students will be able to provide competent instruction, supervision and consultation of psychological practice by other clinicians.
  • Students will acquire and demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to plan, conduct, evaluate and disseminate research in areas relevant to psychology.
  • Students will acquire knowledge and skills necessary to conduct themselves professionally and to prepare for careers in clinical science. In addition to the above activities, in which students are socialized into academic psychology, they are expected to behave in a professional manner.
  • Formulate research hypotheses, design empirical studies to test hypotheses, and carry out data collections.
  • Develop knowledge and skills required to engage in practice or research in a specific area within psychology.

Achievements
  1. Students carried out an activity on Cross Culture Psychology representing different cultures of Pakistan in 2021.
  2. An awareness session was conducted on World Mental Health day in which students were also awarded certificates by Baluchistan Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (BIPBS) in 2021.
  3. In October 2020, students put forward their ideas about various mental health issues by presenting certain dramas and movies about mental disorders.
  4. Various psychological models were created and displayed by our talented students as their project in 2019.
  5. A fruitful seminar on Industrial and Organizational Psychology was conducted in 2018
  6. Meeting of BOS:
    • 1st BOS meeting was conducted on 3rd April, 2014.
    • 2nd BOS meeting was conducted on 17th November, 2015.
    • 3rd BOS meeting was conducted on 7th December, 2020 by Miss Nida.
    • 4th BOS meeting was conducted on 1st April, 2022 by Miss Hina.
  7. Psychological first aid resource person was Sir Aziz in 2017, 14 November.
